Guru Purnima

JULY 21, 2024

The word Guru is derived from two words, 'Gu' and 'Ru'. The Sanskrit word "Gu" means darkness or ignorance. "Ru" denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore one who removes darkness of our ignorance is a Guru. On this day, disciples pay respect to their Guru. It falls on the day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadha.

Without the blessing of Guru it is not possible to attain Enlightenment or Mukti. Guru serves the ultimate and essential role of helping the soul accomplish its journey and reach the goal. It is the Guru who helps put an end to infinite cycle of life and death and frees the person from worldly limitations of body and mind.

On this Auspicious day let us pray Guru Dakshina and our Guru Amma Sri Karunamayi by resolving from the core of our Heart that we will follow the footsteps of our Guru, practice what is preached, drop our ego, see God in every living creature and love all and spread the message of peace and happiness and realise the Ultimate Goal.
