Karthika Masam
November 10 to December 8, 2026
“న కార్తీక సమో మాసో న శాస్త్రం వేదసన్నిభమ్।
న చ గంగాసమం తీర్థం న సుఖం భార్యయా సమమ్॥”
(As the Puranas declare: There is no sacred river equal to Mother Ganga, no scripture equal to the Vedas, and no holy month equal to Karthika.)
The holiest of all lunar months, the sacred season of Karthika (occurring between late autumn and early winter) is celebrated across all Sanatana Dharma treatises as the supreme time for the adoration of Lord Parameshwara and the attainment of His boundless grace (Sivaanugraham). Worship during this auspicious month bestows radiant health (Arogya Siddhi), tranquility of mind (Chitta Shanti), and deep contemplative absorption (Dhyana Samadhi).
In this sacred month, seekers are enjoined to rise in the ambrosial hours of Brahmi Muhurta (between 3:30 AM and 4:30 AM) to perform Ushakkala Snanam (sacred dawn bath) and meditate. During this divine twilight hour, the cosmos is profoundly charged with pure spiritual vibrations (Sattva Guna), rendering one’s meditation and contemplation exceptionally potent and soul-stirring.

శ్రీ కార్తీక సోమవార వ్రత మహాత్మ్యము (The Glories of Somavaram)
Among all the days of Karthika Masam, Somavaram (Monday) is venerated as the day dearest to Lord Shiva who is Himself Soma-Natha and Sa-Uma (inseparable from the Divine Mother Parashakti). Undertaking sacred Upavasa (fasting), silent contemplation, and sincere sadhana on these divine Mondays burns away lifetimes of accumulated karmas (Sarva Papa Kshaya).
In this sacred year of 2026, the four divine Karthika Somavaras fall on:
Prathama Somavaram: Monday, November 16, 2026
Dvitiya Somavaram: Monday, November 23, 2026
Tritiya Somavaram: Monday, November 30, 2026
Chaturtha Somavaram: Monday, December 7, 2026

Monday is governed by Chandra (Soma), whose cooling crescent adorns the matted locks of Lord Chandrashekhara. In Hindu spiritual science, pristine white corresponds directly to the sattvic, nectar-like radiance of the moon. Therefore, devotees are warmly advised to wear unstitched or traditional pure white attire in handloom cotton or silk during worship, as it creates an aura of purity and readily absorbs cosmic grace.

మహా కార్తీక పౌర్ణమి (Deva Deepavali)
Tuesday, November 24, 2026
The auspicious full moon of Karthika (Karthika Pournami) is celebrated as the day Lord Mahadeva manifested as the infinite pillar of cosmic fire (Jyotirlinga) and vanquished the Tripurasuras. On this sacred day, it is highly enjoined upon every sadhaka to observe fervent prayer, dhyanam (deep meditation), Shiva Panchakshari japa, and Deepa Daanam (lighting consecrated ghee lamps) in front of the Shiva Lingam, the sacred Tulasi altar, or temple precincts to dispel the darkness of spiritual ignorance (Avidya).
నిత్య సాధన & శివ పూజా విధి
(Prescribed Sadhana & Archana)
On these sanctified days, aspirants are encouraged to intensify their spiritual disciplines:
Japa & Chanting: Perform extra rounds of your consecrated Guru Mantra, or chant the sacred Shiva Panchakshari Mantra (“Om Namah Shivaya”) or the Shiva-Shakti Panchakshari (“Om Hrim Namah Shivaya”) either 108 or 1008 times with single-minded focus.
Healing & Longevity: For relief from physical afflictions, grief, and mental distress, the continuous chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra acts as divine celestial medicine (Amrita Swarupa).
Vrata Niyama: Observing Mouna (sacred silence), fasting (Upavasa), or taking only light, sattvic phalahara (single meal after star-sighting / Nakta Vratham) purifies the body and opens the spiritual channels.
శ్రీ లింగార్చన (Abhishekam to the Shiva Linga):
Those blessed with a consecrated Shiva Lingam at home should joyfully perform Panchamrita Abhishekam and Archana by offering:
Pure water (Ganga Jal)
Sacred Bhasma / Vibhuti
Fragrant flowers and Bilva leaves (Tridalam Trigunakaram)
Fresh milk, curd, pure cow's ghee, honey, and raw sugar.
Offer each sacred substance onto the Shiva Lingam gently with a pure, dedicated puja spoon while fervently chanting “Om Namah Shivaya,” “Om Hrim Namah Shivaya,” or the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
శ్రీ రుద్రాభిషేక వైభవము:
For devotees versed in the sacred Vedic hymns, performing or listening to the Sri Rudra Prasnam (Namaka & Chamaka) accompanied by Rudra Abhishekam during Pradosha / evening twilight of Karthika Masam constitutes the highest form of worship, conferring both temporal prosperity and spiritual liberation (Bhukti and Mukti).
