Vaikunta Ekadasi

Mukkoti Vaikunta Ekadasi

23rd DECEMBER 2023- SATURDAY

Mukkoti Vaikunta Ekadashi is the most special Ekadasi (11th moon) as on this day Lord Vishnu opens the gates of heaven. This symbolizes that Vishnu is giving access to powerful prosperity energy that can change your financial mindset and help you receive boons of abundance. According to scriptures, Vaikunta Ekadashi is the only day of the year when Vishnu gives you access to his celestial abode Vaikunta, where Goddess Lakshmi resides with Vishnu in abundance and prosperity.

Vaikunta Ekadasi: A Gateway to Divine Blessings

Vaikunta Ekadasi, also known as Mokshada Ekadasi, is a highly auspicious and spiritually significant day in the Hindu calendar. It is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm by millions of devotees across the world. This sacred day falls on the eleventh day (Ekadasi) of the waxing moon in the month of Margashirsha (December – January) as per the Hindu lunar calendar.

The Significance of Vaikunta Ekadasi

Vaikunta Ekadasi is celebrated in honor of Lord Vishnu and is believed to be the day when the gates of His divine abode, Vaikunta (meaning the ‘place of no obstacles’), are thrown open to all His devotees. It is a day when devotees seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu for spiritual growth, liberation from the cycle of birth and death (moksha), and the removal of all sins and impurities.

The Legend Behind Vaikunta Ekadasi

The significance of Vaikunta Ekadasi is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. According to the Padma Purana, there was a demon named Muran who wreaked havoc in the celestial realms. The Devas (celestial beings) sought refuge in Lord Vishnu, who, in turn, engaged in a fierce battle with Muran. During the battle, Lord Vishnu realized that He needed a special weapon to defeat the demon. He decided to rest and entered a cave in Badarikashrama, the abode of the goddess Haimavati.

Muran, taking advantage of Lord Vishnu’s apparent vulnerability, attacked Him while He was asleep. At that moment, a powerful female deity emerged from Lord Vishnu’s body and annihilated Muran with a mere glance. Lord Vishnu, pleased with her devotion and valor, named her ‘Ekadasi’ and granted her a boon. Instead of asking for personal gains, Ekadasi selflessly requested that anyone who observed a fast and worshipped her on this day should be cleansed of their sins. Lord Vishnu, moved by her compassion, granted her wish and declared that those who observed the fast and venerated Ekadasi on Vaikunta Ekadasi would attain Vaikunta, His divine abode.

Observing Vaikunta Ekadasi: Devotees observe a strict fast on Vaikunta Ekadasi, abstaining from food and water for the entire day. The fast is broken on the following day, known as ‘Dwadashi,’ after performing morning prayers and rituals. Special prayers, bhajans (devotional songs), and recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama (the thousand names of Lord Vishnu) are common practices on this sacred day.
